What to Do When You Get an Alert

Follow these clear steps to ensure your loved one is safe

1

Don't Panic - Try Calling or Texting

Most missed check-ins are simply because someone forgot or got distracted. Start with a simple phone call or text message.

What to say:

"Hi [Name], I got a notification that you missed your DailyOK check-in. Just checking in to make sure you're okay!"

Call their phone
Send a text message
Try WhatsApp or other messaging
2

If No Response - Try Alternative Contacts

If you can't reach them within 15-30 minutes, try contacting other people who might be able to check on them.

Family Members

Call their spouse, children, or siblings

Neighbors

Ask neighbors to knock on their door

Workplace/Friends

Contact their employer or close friends

Building Management

If they live in an apartment, contact management

3

Still No Response? Request a Welfare Check

If you still can't reach them after trying multiple methods for 1-2 hours, it's time to request a welfare check from local authorities.

How to request a welfare check:

  1. 1 Call the non-emergency police number for their area (not 911 unless you suspect immediate danger)
  2. 2 Explain that you're an emergency contact for someone who uses a daily check-in safety app
  3. 3 Provide their full name, address, and phone number
  4. 4 Mention any relevant medical conditions or mobility issues they have
  5. 5 Request that an officer performs a welfare check at their residence

⚠️ Trust your instincts: If you have reason to believe they're in immediate danger (medical emergency, fall, etc.), call 911 instead of the non-emergency number.

4

False Alarm? You'll Get a Notification

If the person realizes they missed their check-in by mistake, they can cancel the alert in the app. You'll receive a follow-up notification that everything is okay.

📧 Email Update:

"Good news! [Name] has marked their missed check-in as a false alarm. They are safe and okay."

📱 SMS Update:

"✓ [Name] cancelled the alert. False alarm - they're okay!"

This is actually the most common scenario. People forget to check in, see the notification on their phone, and quickly cancel it before their contacts worry.

Important Reminders

Act Promptly, Not Frantically

Take the alert seriously, but remember that most missed check-ins are innocent mistakes. Start with simple contact attempts.

Keep Their Info Handy

Save their address, phone number, and key contacts in a place you can quickly access. This helps you act fast if needed.

Coordinate With Other Contacts

If there are multiple emergency contacts, coordinate your response to avoid duplicate welfare checks or confusion.

Better a False Alarm Than Ignored Risk

Never hesitate to request a welfare check if you're truly concerned. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Common Questions

How often will I receive alerts?

You'll only receive alerts when the person you're monitoring misses one of their scheduled check-ins (typically twice per day). If they consistently check in, you won't receive any notifications.

Will I be notified when they successfully check in?

No, you won't receive notifications for successful check-ins. This prevents alert fatigue and ensures you only get notified when action is needed. The system follows a "no news is good news" principle.

Can I customize the alert settings?

The person using DailyOK controls the alert settings. However, you can update your contact information (phone number or email) by asking them to update it in their emergency contacts list.

What if I'm traveling and can't respond immediately?

Let the person know in advance when you'll be unavailable. They can add additional emergency contacts who can respond during that time, or temporarily adjust their emergency contact list.

Do I need to download the DailyOK app?

No. As an emergency contact, you'll receive alerts via email and SMS. You don't need to download or use the DailyOK app at all. Only the person using the check-in service needs the app.

How do I know the alert is legitimate and not spam?

All official DailyOK alerts come from alerts@dailyok.app and will include specific details about the person (their name) and their missed check-in time. If you're ever unsure, contact the person directly to verify.
